Forty Thousand Years was written and recorded in only four months from September to December 2021, a really cluttered period of my life where I spent an unhealthy amount of time in my room composing. My taste in music didn't really change much from metal and shoegaze but I felt really drawn to basing compositions off of dark and dusty hip hop beats. Regardless I still wanted to develop on the 'gaziness' that I had on my previous EP 'Memorial'. I only recently read 'Blame' by Tsutomu Nihei and I imagined a colossally loud and unrecognisable guitar sound weaving throughout the endless world of buildings and nothingness. With this I pictured the album to be an alternation of loud relentless blackgaze and the paler hip hop-esque tracks I was composing.

At this time I met Niamh who being a huge hip hop and trip hop fan, offered to sing on some of the tracks. Not knowing shit about either genre I obliged thinking it would lead to something interesting. I don't think either of us really knew what we were doing, Niamh hadn't even done any music for years and I was composing genres completely out of my comfort zone. But that sense of no direction really made something special for us I think.

(Also - The photograph on the cover is of a building right next to Haymarket train station in Edinburgh. It’s not there anymore but if you go on Google Maps you can see it there around the time the photo was taken)
